A group of concerned Christian Brothers of De LaSalle (Lasallian) envisioned new methods of forming young people, in particular the young men of their schools, in the Christian faith. They recognized that the times called for new approaches in making the Gospel message relevant and meaningful in the lives of their students amidst a changing world. Out of their concern was born a publishing program that they never imagined would continue to be flourishing decades later, reaching well beyond their own schools to schools and parishes across the English-speaking world. This publishing program became what is now known as Saint Mary’s Press, one of the leading Catholic publishers in the United States. In its early years, Saint Mary’s Press operated as a direct ministry of the Christian Brothers’ Minnesota District.
